Working for Wishes

Olympic Steel's company-wide partnership with the Make-A-Wish Foundation® began in 2004 as part of the company's 50th Anniversary celebration. Employees selected the organization with the hope of granting a single wish, a $5,000 commitment. That first year, the company's four-week fund-raising efforts far exceeded expectations, granting three wishes with a campaign total of $17,500.

With such overwhelming success, Olympic Steel's annual "Working for Wishes" campaign was born.

Campaign Milestones and Successes

  • In 2007, Olympic Steel experienced the honor of granting the 6000th wish for the Greater Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucy chapter of the Make-A-Wish Foundation®.
  • In 2010, employees held their most successful campaign to date, granting nine wishes with $56,830 in donations, a $20,000 increase of the company's previous record fund-raising year.
  • Olympic Steel is pleased to have been chosen as the 2011 "Distinguished Honoree" at the Greater Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucy chapter's annual "Big Wish Gala" event.

To date, Olympic Steel employees have raised over $235,600 and granted more than 41 identified wishes working with 10 different Make-A-Wish Foundation® chapters.

National Volunteer Week
Olympic Steel sponsors a number of initiatives in support of local and national charities by exploring the "many ways to give."

In particular, National Volunteer Week spotlights philanthropic initiatives in communities local to many of our operating facilities, providing employees with information and opportunities to aid these causes in a number of ways.

In 2010 National Volunteer Week initiatives across the company supported more than 55 charitable causes with over $66,700 in cash donations, 667+ hours of volunteer service, 1,264+ pounds of food, 30+ bags of clothing, 77 units of blood, 52 cell phones and various other needed items.
