The Corporate Office has a challenging opportunity for a candidate interested in the Transportation Manager position.
The Corporate Transportation Manager serves as Olympic Steel's expert in purchasing, pricing, relationship management, and contract negotiation of transportation services. The Transportation Manager is responsible for developing and implementing a strategic plan to create new company-wide value-added programs and processes to lower total costs associated with the movement of materials for resale. This position indirectly manages a team of divisional transportation leaders, providing direction and oversight regarding resources and execution efficiencies. The Transportation Manager also creates and maintains a network of in-bound, and out-bound transportation contacts, maximizing the geographic and material handling capabilities to create a competitive advantage in the markets served by the profit centers of Olympic Steel. This position assists division transportation efforts as needed. The manager also supervises the management of Olympic owned (leased) transportation equipment, measures its profitability, and acts on increasing the fleet or repositioning equipment.
Minimum Qualifications:
- High school diploma or GED required. Bachelor.s degree or higher preferred.
- 5+ years experience in a related field required
- Knowledge of key financial cost drivers and supply/demand balances required
- Prior vendor and contract negotiation experience required
- Ability to coordinate & execute programs in a geographically diverse organization, prior experience a plus
- Previous supply chain experience in steel industry preferred
- Prior involvement in transactions with truck, rail, barge, ship, and port operation businesses preferred
- Previous experience in a sales, marketing, or pricing role with a trucking or truck brokerage firm, rail company or third party logistics organization preferred
