Summer Intern Project
Operational Excellence Intern – Olympic Steel, Minneapolis, MN
“This summer, I worked on reducing machine downtime and helping with general operational improvements at the MN-Coil facility. I created a pilot maintenance log to track recurring issues, allowing us to focus more on preventative maintenance instead of responding to breakdowns. I also improved how production communicates with the woodshop, so skids can be ready ahead of time. On top of that, I updated run-time estimates to better reflect actual coil processing times. If the maintenance log works well, it could be used at other facilities too.”
