Summer Intern Project

Engineering / Quality Intern – Olympic Steel, Bettendorf, IA

“My project focused on streamlining the temper mill stenciling process. I helped develop and implement a QR code system that transfers the required information directly from the job packet to the machine. I also explored how a system used at another plant could be adapted to work with Bettendorf’s ordering process. It was rewarding to help take the idea from concept through implementation and use time studies to compare the updated process with manual entry. The QR code system will save time, improve consistency and accuracy, and support the division’s broader continuous improvement efforts. I’m proud that I had the opportunity to help turn an idea into a process the team can continue using.”
