Summer Intern Project
Engineering / Quality Intern – Olympic Steel, Bettendorf, IA
“My project focused on helping improve the accuracy of production schedules at Bettendorf. I compared scheduled and actual runtime data, calculated the variance and created a spreadsheet with average actual runtimes by part. I organized a large amount of information into manageable sections and used detailed checklists to guide the work. I’m proud of how much data I was able to process and bring together in one useful resource. Once the updated runtimes are added to the system, the team will be able to schedule people, machines and jobs more accurately, make better use of each shift and potentially apply the same process at other locations.”
